Our mission is to support the rural communities of Amherst and Nelson Counties by delivering nutritious, prepared meals to seniors and disabled individuals. By suppling food and daily contact with the outside world, we make it possible for homebound individuals to continue to lead independent lives and remain in their own homes. We receive no government funding, but instead draw our support from the individuals, businesses and religious and social organizations of our counties. As a member of the Meals on Wheels Association of America, we embody the spirit of that organization's Rural Initiative, striving to become an integral part of our rural communities.

Blue Ledge clients receive one meal a day, up to five days a week, depending on their needs. Our program is flexible and no client need enter into a long term arrangement with us. Some clients may need us only in the short term while recovering from an illness. Others are with us for the long haul. Any adult without the ability and means to prepare food is eligible, regardless of age. Clients or their families are encouraged to contribute towards the cost of their meals, but clients who are unable to manage any contribution are accepted if sponsorships are available.
Blue Ledge volunteers include regular drivers and substitutes. A regular driver is assigned one route, one day a week. Substitutes fill in when regulars need relief. Some volunteers team up with friends, either taking turns or sharing the experience each week. Blue Ledge provides drivers with quality delivery equipment to maintain appropriate food temperatures.
Blue Ledge donors are families, churches, businesses, and civic organizations in Amherst and Nelson Counties. Besides donations, support comes from our fund raising activities and foundation grants.
